Moment of Poof

Patti 0:18
Hi and welcome to episode 479 of No Crying to Baseball, the Go Smoke a Cigar or Something episode. My name's Patti. What's my name? My name's Patti, and here is my friend Pottymouth. It's been a long day. I've had dinner already because I was out with senior citizens. It's only 6o'clock, and I've had dinner already.

Pottymouth 0:34
You know that is so not the Senior Citizens that are my my parents, my dad, and my stepmom. Yeah, I just got back. What day is it? Sunday, two days ago, from a week with them, and I can't stay up as late as they do. I just can't.

Patti 0:45
Yeah.

Pottymouth 0:46
Like my dad was the one who watched every game till the end. You know, he took some naps during the game, but he's that's how

Patti 0:52
you last.

Pottymouth 0:53
Yeah, yeah. He's definitely got it like you know planned out, and on a regular basis, the two of them like keep teenager hours. Yeah. Well, you know what? If

Patti 1:01
I could, I would.

Pottymouth 1:02
Right. I guess I just can't. I

Patti 1:04
can't go to bed early, and I also can't sleep in, so I got it bad on both sides.

Pottymouth 1:07
That's super rough. It's true. I think

Patti 1:09
that this this was a volunteer appreciation donor that I went to, and I think it was a at 430 because the host, who is a lovely, lovely human, was not sad to get everybody out of her house by 6o'clock.

Pottymouth 1:19
Yeah, there's that. I'm

Patti 1:20
like this is fair. That

Pottymouth 1:21
makes sense. This is

Patti 1:22
absolutely fair.

Pottymouth 1:23
Plus, it's a kind of cruddy day outside today. A little bit of rain here in the greater DC metropolitan area, but you know our plants are happy. Yeah,

Patti 1:33
yeah, and and and also all of our our plans are basically staying inside and watching things on screens,

Pottymouth 1:38
which is great. Which is great. So I mean, I think we gotta like do a little woot woot. Like congratulations! I am so fucking a Cleveland dreams are still on

Patti 1:48
Cleveland Milwaukee man. Still hoping

Pottymouth 1:50
crazy, crazy. I know we'll go into like details about it, but it deserves a little bit of of celebration. And I want you to know that the entire family, my parents, were all rooting for Cleveland because I explained how it's been so long. It's been, you know, and as much as there was a little bit of sympathy or excitement, depending on the what was happening on the game about the third of the White Sox lineup that were from the Red Sox very recently, yeah, yeah. So there was a lot of like, oh, jeez. But there was so much. Patty's gonna be really like. I can't tell you how many times my dad turned to me. He was like, Patty's really gonna like that. Like, oh, yeah.

Patti 2:32
I mean, I I don't care what the support. Why the why the support? I appreciate the support. That's fantastic. And yeah, that last game was very tense and very exciting, and I was so relieved. I was just so relieved. I was stress crocheting because if I'm not doing that, I'm going to just be stress eating, and no one wants to see that. So yes, I've gotten great head start on Christmas gifts. Let me just say that is amazing. It was power stuff,

Pottymouth 2:55
and you got a few games to go.

Patti 2:56
I do have yes, hooray! I have a few games to go on today's show, boyfriends in the postseason. We've got walk-ups. We've got moments of poof, and we've got some goodbyes for now. We've got the police blotter featuring spectator interference, international baseball to keep you going in the interim, and labor featuring collective bargaining, lockout tips, and mr. Splash. Cheers! All right, so we talk about boyfriends. These are these guys we pick in the off season. One one guy per team for each of us. Something we like about them, whether they're just really good at baseball, or they're funny, or they do good philanthropy stuff. They've got a good backstory. Whatever it is, makes us want to go have a beer with them. The universe of boyfriends we're talking about now is shrinking because now we're onto the ones that are carrying on into the postseason. So we're saying goodbye to a couple of them. One of my guys is staying strong. We just talked about Cleveland making it through to the next next round. Chase Delatter is my Cleveland guy.

Pottymouth 3:56
Great pick for this year. I mean, yeah, this is you know unpredictable.

Patti 4:00
That yeah, that was pretty good. He um, if you remember, he he debuted during the the the postseason last year, and so someone was joking about. Well, it came to the front door this time to get into the postseason. Potty mouth reminded me that you know his walk-up song has been you know take me home, country roads for a while. I mean, like we we sang it when we were there on the Epic baseball road trip, but since we were there, I think it's pretty recently. Cleveland fans have changed the references to you know to West Virginia, and the line is now chased a lotter hit a home run, and they just work in this song. And you can clearly hear it when you are watching the game through a screen. It's very very fun. Game four, when you know you know Cleveland had they were down 0 and two. They won game three. They came back on game four. Game four was his birthday. Oh really? So that's pretty cool. Wow. So he was interviewed immediately after that when you know they came back to then send it to back to Cleveland for the game five, and he said. We don't want to be down two and zero, but we never thought we were out of it. Came here, played free, lots of energy, good vibes in the clubhouse. That's what it's about. It's baseball, and they said, "Okay, this is great. This is your birthday. It's a big deal. How are you going to celebrate? And he's like, "Probably some poker on the plane. We have practice tomorrow. Oh

Pottymouth 5:17
wow, that's so cool. I watched

Patti 5:21
a couple other interviews from boyfriends who were not moving on in the postseason, and I think they have in common are very very sad puppy dog eyes.

Pottymouth 5:27
Oh, these are all like youngins. These are these guys, right?

Patti 5:30
These are youngins. Yeah. So my my guy for the Yankees, Spencer Jones, rookie, did really well. He did really well this season, and and it was it was tough going because he went up and down to the minors. He got bounced back a couple of times, and then he finished strong, like game two against Tampa Bay. He had hit. Oh, this one was actually shortly after the incident where the roof was closed in Milwaukee, and there was that whole to do about what happened. Spencer Jones hits a fly ball into the catwalk at the trop.

Pottymouth 6:01
Wow!

Patti 6:01
And not only does it hit that, it rolls around for a while up there before dropping. So initially, it's like Johnny DeLuca's under, waiting for it to come down, and all of a sudden, it's rolling away. And so, like Victor Mason Jr. ends up with it. He wasn't like anywhere near where they thought it was going to come down, but it was, you know, so it wasn't out. It was caught and it was cleared by the umps because the ground rules are very clear at the trap. The roof is bad, but the ground rules are good. So that happens. So

Pottymouth 6:30
it's like the inverse of Milwaukee that has a moderately good roof, except for the part that was leaking in the row next to us. Right. But but bad rules. But not enough rules. Yeah, there. I'm thinking of what was that game? Is it Pachinko where you put the the the little ball in it? Yes, like it goes. It's around that, and you don't know where it's gonna come out where it's gonna go.

Patti 6:49
So that was game two. So game three, you know, remember they got swept. So game three, the the game where they got you know like finished the sweep. He had a hit, an RBI, scored a run.

Pottymouth 7:00
That's great. Two walks.

Patti 7:00
He had had a good game, right? So they're of course talking to Aaron Judge. Talk about sad puppy dog eyes. Every time they looked at him during the playoffs, it's like I want to be out there. I want to be out there. I want to be out there. What he said about Spencer Jones was every single opportunity he got was really special and fun to see. He's going to be an incredible player for us for many years, which is pretty good from the cap, right? And then they talk to to him and with the sad puppy dog eyes. And Spencer Jones says, "I'm upset, but at the same time, I'm grateful. There's a lot of really good people in this room to learn from how to be a professional, how to show up every day, how to play in New York, how to look people in the eye, and how to be real.

Pottymouth 7:36
Yeah, I mean, I hate to say it as somebody who doesn't like watching the Yankees have success, but I feel like their young guys are kind of solid. You know, Spencer John and and George Lombard Jr. and Ben fucking Rice carrying the whole team on his shoulders. He was my last year's pick, and holy shit, that man is just a home run machine. So you know, wah wah. I gotta say, Red Sox Nation was very happy to see them go down, but damn, that's the future's looking kind of bright for yeah, no for sure.

Patti 8:07
And so the other sad puppy dog eyes were on Drake Baldwin, my my Atlanta guy who did great this year. He was hitting you know big big home runs over and over again. He did a good job as catcher. He he said he was talking first. I saw two interviews. One was when they they made it to the next round, and one was after they didn't get any farther. The first was it's one of the cooler moments I've ever been a part of playing in a game that means so much. And then this one I I have mixed feelings about because as as we have said even last week, not excited about the Atlanta fans, right? But here's one of the guys that I would like to see succeed, but the fans. Right. What he said was, it feels bad to let the fans down because they really came out and supported. I'll remember this feeling in the off season and not want to experience it again, right? That whole feeling bad for you know getting out of the postseason. It's like no, I'm gonna remember this. You know, it's gonna fuel them, and it's gonna come back stronger.

Pottymouth 9:03
And they just gotta stop the fucking shop. They

Patti 9:07
do, but Drake wasn't the one doing it, so I could be happy. You know, happy for him. Right now, it's formers. I don't have a current Milwaukee guy, but I have two farmers that I'm really excited about, and I'm gonna talk about them kind of together. Kristin Yelich, who was he's a former once and forever boyfriend of mine and Sal Frelic, who was my last year's Milwaukee guy. So for Sal in Game Two, he scored the winning run on a close call at home off of a of a churio walk off single because he cut he cut third base really tight. He was on second, cut third base really tight, and he he beat the Jackson Marrow throw home, right? So like he barely beat it home, and that was like the winning, that run you know was was the walk off right. So he says this is the stuff we take pride in. This is the stuff we practice every day in spring training. Cutting the corner at third base, not getting too wide. How much time? How much time you lose? It's the attention. To detail that's installed in our culture. Then he's like Christian Yelich is there. He's like pointing to Christian Yelich, and he says, "It's stuff I learned from this guy.

Pottymouth 10:08
That's when

Patti 10:08
I first got called up. If you're not doing it right, you don't play. There isn't a consciousness to do it. It's just ingrained in you,

Pottymouth 10:14
and that's why Yelich is the captain.

Patti 10:16
It is. And then what I liked was I also read that Sal said his greatest moment so far in the bigs is when he got to pick up the tab for Yelly. He said he's always paying for everything. We finally got him this year. Me and some of the dudes were out to dinner somewhere. Houston, it might have been. We snuck in behind him and finally paid for him. I was like, this is one of the greatest days of my life, and I got to pay for Christian Yelich. And they said, okay, well, how did what what did Yeli do? And he's like standard. He was mad. He was like, that's not how this

Pottymouth 10:45
works. That's sweet. He's like the dad. Like he's he's it's like that's what my dad does when I pull out my credit card. He's like, you do not do that. Your

Patti 10:54
money is not good. Yeah, we we have to sneak around. My father in law. We have to get up and go do the cashier and say, can you just take care of this before you come? So separately, Big Poppy sort of like jumped on this like he's the dad thing because he's interviewing Yelich after they clinch right he's Yelich is in the celebratory clubhouse you know he's got the headset on so he can talk to Big Poppy and he's like completely dry like why isn't he so kind of stuff and Big Poppy looks at him and says you you look too too dry, so clearly you're not partying enough. Go smoke a cigar or something.

Pottymouth 11:25
Yeah, that's big poppy for sure.

Patti 11:27
I thought that was pretty good. Okay, so two Cleveland guys, two farmers there. Austin Hedge is my 2018 guy from San Diego, who you know now with Cleveland, and Jose Ramirez, who was my 2019 guy there. There was a piece about what inspired Cleveland to kind of keep going, and apparently Austin Hedges was handed a note card by a young woman who's a season ticket holder, like back in May that just said World Series 2026 on it. Wow! And he said he's kept it taped up to his locker, basically to his hubby this entire season, and he's been in touch with her off and on. Like she like checks to make sure it's still there, and he's like, "Yeah, no, it's still here. I look at it every single day, so if you watched the series, you saw Jose Ramirez hit a very unlikely two-run homer. It looked like it was a golf swing, right? Like that

Pottymouth 12:16
was amazing. So, so the the

Patti 12:18
president of the Guardians, Chris Antonetti asks him, "How did you do that? And Jose says, "Home run pitch. I was looking for it. And Antonetti says, "That was six inches off the ground.

Pottymouth 12:32
Wow!

Patti 12:32
Turns out it's the lowest pitch ever hit for a home run in the postseason since tracking began in 2008. And his manager Stephen Vode said, "That's what guys going to Cooperstown do.

Pottymouth 12:41
Yeah. Oh my. I mean, just how he showed up.

Patti 12:44
He showed up,

Pottymouth 12:45
and that was he lost a lot of time this year because of his handmade surgery, right? And then he came back and he was struggling. He came

Patti 12:51
back too soon because his team needed him. He said, right, which is like no, no, too healthy,

Pottymouth 12:56
right, right. But now the handmade superpowers are coming. So then, yeah, that that was timed exactly right. What a guy too! He's so cute. He's so sweet. All right, I guess I have. Is it my turn? Yeah, you're talking about some baseball boyfriends. So I had three standing at the beginning of the week, and now I'm down to two. But I I like these two guys. Although only one of them, I want their team to win. So Jonathan Aranda was so much fun to see for so

Speaker 1 13:23
many

Pottymouth 13:24
reasons. the The primary reason was that he just bashed the Yankees. He was he came to play. He was so much better in the postseason against the Yankees than he was during the regular season. You know, this is what oh God, Chad Tracy. Please learn post season is different. Players behave differently, and you don't know what's going to happen. It's how you

Patti 13:45
get nicknames like mr. October because that's when it happens for you. That's why, as we know, it's different.

Pottymouth 13:49
Yeah, I mean, look at fucking Kike Hernandez, who I am just blown away, and I'm not even talking about him officially in this episode, but I can't not because he just clicks it in, and it's Kike time. Jonathan Randa maybe you know is a little bit connected to that. I he's been most improved against the Evil Empire Award for the season. So during the season he was six for 34 against the Yankees. During the postseason he was four for 12, including the game one, and we talked about this last week because it had just happened, winning home run, which was a 417 foot bomb off of Garrett Cole in the third inning, they won one to zero, set the stage. What I didn't know last week was that it is only the 17th postseason game in history with a one to zero score, and that one was a solo home run. It was also Jonathan Aranza's first postseason hit ever, because Tampa Bay was in the postseason in 2023, but they got swept by Texas in the wild card, and he did not get a hit at that time. He had only been two for nine against Garrett Cole in his whole career, so not only did he score that beautiful. Run in game one to give me hope and set the stage for what was to come. But he also fielded the final out. He waved off the pitcher even and like made a point of it to get that full. So Drew Ramison was the pitcher who also like you know he's the other guy who deserves the win on this. Got the win, but holy shit, pitching a no hitter into the eighth inning was crazy. So he was interviewed after the game about you know his experience with pitching, and then he asked you know, and how about that energy in the dugout after that one home run? You know, like to give you a the knowing that you were you guys were ahead, and he said, "quote I was in the bathroom, so I missed it. It would have been a really cool time to be in the dugout, but no, I had to take care of my own business.

Patti 15:49
Oh my god, just

Pottymouth 15:50
great, you know. They're people too, so oops, it definitely leads. Yeah, and it he did well. Like I just I sometimes wonder about that. Like when you're pitching eight innings, when do you take that break? I guess it worked out. And the the other wonderful thing about Jonathan Randa was when we were texting. I think it was Game Three that we were actually testing texting because every time he runs, yes, his helmet falls off, his hair just goes boing, and it's the poof. It's the poof moment, and it's glorious.

Patti 16:16
It is glorious. It just explodes. It's like you cannot contain me.

Pottymouth 16:19
Yes, and if you get you know a couple per game, it's just a couple big smiles. So I am looking for his

Patti 16:25
moment of poof. Just made me so happy.

Pottymouth 16:28
It was that last moment of the game with. So I'm hoping we get more poof, but fewer runs out of him as they take on Cleveland. I thought it was. I just wanted to note former wise the other two big offensive, not offensive offense players. That's not they're not offensive people. It for Tampa were a past boyfriend and a past boyfriend adjacent that I get a lot of laughs out of. So humor junior Caminero, not humor Junior Caminero, I picked last year, and he like just blasted out last year and this year. Amazing third baseman. He was three for 10 with two walks and two runs scored. But what I super loved about him was he was the hype guy who continued. You talked about the big poppy celebration. Duh, Yankees lose. So he started this in like 2017 or something like a long time ago, and then last year with Toronto against the Yankees, and that they had beat them, and then you know it didn't work out for Toronto last year, but Vladdy was in the camera, all soaked partying, saying "Duh Yankees lose, and now it's Junior Caminera's turn to be the Dominican who gets to say "duh Yankees lose" So I appreciate that, and maybe he will follow Vladdy's path and then not win the World Series. Actually, not win the championship series is what we're hoping. Right. And then Victor Mesa Jr. is actually the brother of somebody I picked in our very first season, episode 58, named Victor Victor Mesa, and we have this sort of running joke about all the victors and all the mesas because that's a lot of Victor Mesas. Because of course the father is Victor Mesa, so Victor Mesa Senior has Victor Mesa Junior, and Victor Victor Victor Mesa, so many who was actually the older brother, the Victor Victor. So not the Judah

Patti 18:18
Junior is the younger of the the multi Victor,

Pottymouth 18:21
right? I'm confused. Industrial complex. Why? Why would you even do that? So Victor Mesa Jr. out of nowhere, he ended up being another hero. He had the two run go ahead home run in Game Three. Junior Camanera was was partying with him, and just why all the victors and all the Maces? We wondered like where does this come from? And actually, his father does have some serious cred in Cuban baseball. Played for 19 years in Cuba, and has still holds the record in Cuba of nine steals of home base. I can't. I wonder how many. I I wonder what the record is in MLB. I need to do research. Yeah.

Patti 18:57
Wow. Because

Pottymouth 18:58
that's a lot. That's

Patti 18:59
a lot of home base.

Pottymouth 19:00
So I feel like it was just interesting to mention the father from where Victor Mesa Jr. came from. He was also an Olympic Olympian, Olympian, a gold medal, 1992, and he managed both clubs and national teams in Cuba. Both of those players, by the way, were drafted by the Marlins, which is from whence I chose Victor Victor Mesa, who was done after a lot of time with the jumbo shrimp in 2023, but Victor Mesa Jr. was traded in just this past February after a lot of time in the miners. So

Patti 19:34
at one point somebody on the Marlin said, "Wait a minute! I thought we already had this guy. What do you mean we drafted him now? Didn't he do that already?

Pottymouth 19:40
Right? Yeah, and I hope that there was no like case of mistaken identity in the in the trade, but I'm sure all good. So we will keep an eye on that Victor Mesa that's left. That David Hamilton, my Brewers guy, is not getting a lot of play because he's the backup guy. He just played two games out of the series. He's not even. He started game two on third base, only got on base because of a fielding error in the bottom of the seventh, and advanced on a throwing error. But the key score was the bottom of the ninth that game, where he was pulled, and Gary Sanchez walked as a pinch hitter. So I feel kind of feel like he he could have done that. But then you know he walked after Yelich and and Sal Freilich. Your guys had done the same, and Shario got that hit walk-off single, and everybody was all excited. And I think it's important to note, though, that that loss was at the hands of Mason Miller,

Speaker 2 20:36
who

Pottymouth 20:36
played the game, and then the next game he took off because of paternity leave.

Patti 20:41
Yep.

Pottymouth 20:41
So number one, he missed a game that they won.

Patti 20:45
Yep. The

Pottymouth 20:46
Padres. This is this is Mason Miller. You know, stellar relief pitcher, closer for the Padres. Amazing. Takes a playoff game off to be with his wife, who's giving birth, and like, of course, the people come out of the woodwork to like give him shit, and the deal is, you know, that's a once in a lifetime thing. You, that's fuck everybody who gave him shit, and it didn't fucking matter because they won the game. He wasn't there, and then they lost when he was there. So, you know, it's baseball. He, so my guy David Hamilton did pinch hit on game three, and the top of the eighth got a single, but that was their losing game. So just in general, I'm hoping that he gets a little bit more time running because they barely won this Milwaukee. I mean, they're really really good, but San Diego looked really good. It's the closest division series out of all of them. The first three games of the four that they played were all decided by one run, and game four was decided by two. None of the other serieses were in that neighborhood. So, holy shit! I want to say a sweet goodbye to my guy Kyle Teal from the White Sox. You know, again, the White Sox were a lovely team, and it was lots of fun to watch them. But I am just happy for Cleveland. Kyle kind of made me look bad because last week I praised him for his ABS challenges that had made a big difference. Right, he went forward for four in that game. Coming into game three of this past series, he had been seven for eight in his postseason ABS challenges, so

Patti 22:21
extraordinary. He was doing

Pottymouth 22:22
good, and then boy did he fuck up in Game Three, which is you know the beginning. This was like really the point of the beginning of the blast out for Cleveland, the beginning of the end for the White Sox, really, because it was just a major buzzkill. He had two ABS challenges in one inning and blew them both, and they were close, but it was the third inning, and he just shouldn't have done it.

Patti 22:45
It wasn't a high-level situation. That's neither. Yeah,

Pottymouth 22:48
that's the biggest thing. Like it wasn't like there was somebody on base, or I mean, after I think after the the first one there was, but there was no need for him to do it. So that really sort of turned the table, and that was the inning that Cleveland started breaking out because it was tied one to one at the time of the Blunt challenges, and then by the end of that inning, it was four to one Cleveland, and then Cleveland kept going. So Kyle did his part; he got three hits and two walks in the five games against Cleveland. It was actually not nearly as good as he was against Houston. He batted 300 on Houston, only 158 against Cleveland. So I guess he didn't do his job with the bat on that series. He did, however, break up Gavin Williams' no hit bid in the sixth inning of Game Five, which I was so sad. I think I texted you right away, like, "Dang! Like he was looking so good. There was that what was a hit by a pitch right before him. Yeah, he remembered a

Patti 23:47
walk and a hit by a pitch. Like that was it for yeah market time.

Pottymouth 23:51
But holy cow, that was amazing.

Patti 23:53
Very briefly, I thought he might be going for a Maddox because his pitch count was ridiculously low the first couple of innings, innings. Then they started to like really work him harder and like you know up the pitch count. You know having those like longer at bats and everything. But like for a hot minute, like just how good is he going to be? Like can he finish this? Yeah, there was

Pottymouth 24:12
many of those innings were just three three batters. Like he really was super efficient, especially after the previous two games. So it looked like actually that that was the inning that the White Sox could have done something because Cleveland was I think that was that was the game five so that was two to nothing right so in that inning when he broke up when Kyle Teal broke up the no hit bid there was already somebody on so first and second and then they walked Miguel Vargas so the bases were loaded for Murakami like and like holy shit! Everybody must have been holding their breath, and he struck out. So yay, Cleveland! All right, one last guy I'm going to talk about: Caleb Durbin, Red Sox is taking after his hero in the worst of ways. I do not approve of this behavior. Beside, but but it's really hard because the stats are working in. Their favor, kind of. So, Dustin Pedroia is Caleb Durbin's hero and has been since way before he got to the Red Sox. And they're very similar stature, similar sort of like gritty play. Pedroia was second. Caleb was playing second until he got to the Red Sox, and now he's on third. So, Dustin Pedroia is known for battling through injury. So until he finally got that horrible injury that ended his career, but you know, I wonder, like looking at his list of injuries, I wonder how much of that was already sort of fragile by the time that he got his knee taken out. But Pedroia also had finger issues or his thumb. So 2013, which was World Series year, he had a complete tear of the UCL of his left thumb on opening day, sliding into first base, diving, which I do not approve of. Also against the Yankees, dude, it's opening day. I know it's the Yankees. Hey, you

Patti 26:01
don't slide into first. You're faster if you run through.

Pottymouth 26:03
That's it. Just makes no sense. I don't know the situation and why he went down, but he he did that and didn't tell anybody and was very private about it and was super pissed off when somehow it got leaked to the press at the end of May. So he had already been playing, but at that point, he had not missed one game, and he was batting 332, so his bad behavior was, you know, reassured or whatever.

Patti 26:31
Reinforced. That's it. That's what that's

Pottymouth 26:33
reinforced, and you know they went on to win the World Series in Hero. Anyway, so last week, flash forward to 2026, Caleb Durbin went into surgery for reconstructing the middle knuckle joint of his left fifth left fifth finger. I knew I would have a problem with that, which is your pinky. So the knuckle of your pinky finger, he had to get reconstructed. When did he injure it? June 24th. Oh dear. june 24, he dove into first base against the Rockies. So again,

Patti 27:08
takeaway. I'm a teaching moment,

Pottymouth 27:10
right? I just I did he watch the video and say like I want to do the I don't get it. I don't get it. After that game, Chad Tracy said, "Quote: His pinky was kind of facing a direction it shouldn't, and they were able to pop it back in.

Speaker 3 27:25
Yeah,

Pottymouth 27:26
he played the next night.

Patti 27:27
Yeah, he did the

Pottymouth 27:28
next night, and this is again his bad behavior being reinforced. He hit the the go ahead two run home run off of Cam Schitler playing against the Schlitler. I always pronounce that wrong. Cam Schlitler of the Yankees, of course, the Yankees at Fenway Park, and that not only was that beating the Yankees get heroics for that, but it was the beginning of him not being a bad player anymore. He had shitty, shitty, shitty stats in the beginning of this until he fucking broke his pinky, and then the the Red Sox went on a 15 game winning streak with him sort of leading the charge. So apparently he re injured it several times over the season. After can you not? I don't. Yeah, it's crazy. Like they popped it back in. So the one specific incident that I could find was august 2. He was sliding into second this time against the White Sox.

Patti 28:25
Okay, that's legit.

Pottymouth 28:26
And then so he did that, and apparently GameStop, check injury. Oh, fine, fine, fine. That game, he hit the walk-off single in the bottom with the 13th inning after William Bray. You got walked off. All signs

Patti 28:39
are towards play injured. Why not?

Pottymouth 28:40
I know. And and after that game, when he was asked about it, he said, "quote It's just a pinky. It's all good. Well,

Patti 28:47
it's just a baby finger. What do you use it for anyway?

Pottymouth 28:49
He said at the time of surgery that he couldn't straighten it for the last two months of the season.

Patti 28:55
Oh God.

Pottymouth 28:56
Meanwhile,

Patti 28:58
but wait.

Pottymouth 28:58
In in that July, so this is after the original injury, when the the Red Sox went 32 and five. He was batting 308. In the last 45 games, though, when he couldn't straighten it, when it got super re injured, it went down to 240. So I'm wondering if there might be a connection there. On the season, however, he led All American League third basemen for defensive runs saved, so I'm guessing can the glove make up for the pinky? I don't know if he's probably

Patti 29:28
supporting it. Yeah,

Pottymouth 29:29
yeah, maybe yeah. Well, he was only behind the two NL guys of Alex Bregman and Matt Chapman. Not too bad for third baseball. Yeah. So on the season, he played 153 games, which means he only had nine days off. Most of those nine days were before his injury. He had one in April and four in May when he was shitty, and one in June before the injury, and then he only had three days off after it. So I don't know. I don't like these lessons.

Patti 29:59
Yeah, I think. We're not teaching people to take care of their bodies. We're teaching them like, ah, just play through. It'll be fine. Grab some dirt on it.

Pottymouth 30:05
Yeah.

Patti 30:05
Wow. Yeah. Um. Hey, so we're starting our our backup beers. What did we? What was our first beer?

Pottymouth 30:10
Our first beer was a Schwarz beer from Baby Cat Brewery,

Patti 30:15
and now we've switched to what?

Pottymouth 30:17
We are. This is good in October. So we are drinking these Marsens, which are some version of oh fest beers, they're fest beers, German style lager from Atlas Brewery, but it's connected to Oktoberfest somehow. I guess that's the fest. That would be

Patti 30:31
the fest in the fest beer.

Pottymouth 30:31
Yeah,

Patti 30:32
and it's very delicious.

Pottymouth 30:33
They put the fest in the fest. Yes,

Patti 30:34
they did.

Pottymouth 30:35
It is good.

Patti 30:35
I'm enjoying it. Okay, you knew we were going to talk about it. The place blotter spectator interference. I think they used to call it fan interference. But what I'm noting is maybe a fan seems to be like it's a positive thing. Like it could be like it could be anybody that's causing the interference. What they might be not a fan of the team that they're messing with with their interference. I don't know. Maybe it's just more inclusive.

Pottymouth 30:56
In this case, it was a fan.

Patti 30:58
Right. So

Pottymouth 31:00
oh my God! Let's

Patti 31:01
go back 30 years.

Pottymouth 31:02
Sure, this seems like yesterday, honestly. It

Patti 31:04
does. 30 years ago, in the first game of the ALCS between Baltimore and the Yankees, this is

Pottymouth 31:09

Patti 31:10
Just wait.

Pottymouth 31:11
Oh my! Just wait. Yes, it is.

Patti 31:13
Jeffrey Mayer reaches over the wall, catches a fly ball hit off of Derek Jeter's bat, and it was ruled a game tying home run by the umpires on the field, even though O's outfielder is standing right under it, like it could drop. I could catch this, but they they you know umpire immediately ruled it's a home run. This was before you know replays were allowed to challenge these things to get a better view of what happened to slow things down. The the umpire on the field, Rich Garcia made an you know an instant call on it, and you know Jeffrey Mayer is a hero you know in New York and a villain in in in Baltimore because this is now a home run. Even though later on, when we can't look at it more slowly, nope. And in fact, the umpire Rich Garcia later admitted he got the call wrong. Oh, that sucks! And he says nobody feels worse about it than I do. I'm like, oh yeah. As a matter of fact, a lot of people feel worse than you do. But thank you for saying so. So this past Wednesday, Game Three of the of the division series, ALDS, a Yankees fan pulls an Anthony Volpe fly ball over the wall. Right, it got reviewed, and it was called a double with spectator interference because with a replay review, you could they determined that it would not have gone out and it would have hit the wall. Therefore, it also wouldn't have just dropped into a glove, right? So they made a very good, very fair call. It's not a home run; it's a ground rule double, right? And one month scored because of Beth and all of that, but not not a home run. That fan was immediately ejected. He was escorted out with security, and I think the security was more to protect him. I was

Pottymouth 33:03
gonna say it was for his own safety, right? That is even a Yankees satin jacket. Yeah, he

Patti 33:08
was. He's pretty obvious. You know, I was amused that the press said there's no further punishment, and I'm like, well, at least from the league, because if he gets recognized, I'm sure there'll be all sorts of punishment wreaked upon him by Yankees fans. But to go to your point about it feels like yesterday, not 30 years ago. Fangraphs writer Michael Bauman said, "Quote: If you're old enough to compare this play with a Jeffrey Mayer play, you should schedule a colonoscopy.

Pottymouth 33:38
Oh no!

Patti 33:39
Yeah.

Pottymouth 33:41
So I also thought of two years ago. Two years ago in the World Series, when the Yankees fan grabbed Mookie Betts's like wrist, they peeled it out of his glove. They peeled the ball out of his glove, and so they determined that was more egregious than like grabbing the baseball, which is bad, but that was dangerous. Yeah, you just just think that they would learn. I don't. I mean, I know there's beer involved and excitement and adrenaline. Yeah, and it's

Patti 34:07
spur the moment stuff. But still, dude, stay on your side of the wall. If it comes to you, it's yours. If it doesn't, it never. Isn't about love? Isn't that supposed to be? It is the love

Pottymouth 34:19
poem. Oh my God, that's great!

Patti 34:22
Yeah,

Pottymouth 34:23
we all right, folks. I'm bringing you the good news: is that there's always baseball. So don't worry if your team's out. Don't worry that it's almost time for the championship series and the World Series. There's winter ball, and there it's fun, and you some of it you do have to pay for a little bit, depending on what kinds of things you're already subscribed to. But I highly recommend it. So this week, I'm going to be focusing a little bit on Venezuela because that starts the soonest. It's important to note that Patty's going to explain all the technical stuff about. The lockout in just a minute, but a memo came out or a memo was leaked that shows that it will not affect the ability of Major League Baseball players to play in the Winter Leagues. It's not like you can't go because you might get stuck there. You can go, and actually, it's almost the opposite of that because if they're gone once the lockout starts, then teams can't communicate with them and say things like "come back. So it, you know, I read where's the website, World Ball Network, called it. It's gonna be a free for all. So it's like you know, players are gonna be able to do lo que quieran whatever they want in different parts of Latin America. I am excited. The other thing that it's not going to start stop is when spring training time starts. If it's not happening, players could go to Japan or Korea or Taiwan or Australia or Mexico or an indie league. So it'll be fun to find out. I'm excited to see how this all shakes down. Kind of excited and terrified. So we are recording on Sunday, October 11 th. You could be listening on Tuesday and Monday. That day in between, that magic timey wimey where is it day yesterday tomorrow. Baseball started in Venezuela. So you'll also remember that there was a horrific earthquake in Venezuela, and I'm just amazed that baseball is happening, and I'm hoping that a lot of it is through the support of a lot of players who play in MLB, who are Venezuelan, who give back a little bit to the country. I'm just sort of guessing maybe that's what's happening. So they're starting first on Tuesday. The Lia Mexicana de Pacífica, the the winter league in Mexico is starting, Lidam, the Dominican League is starting october 16, and the Puerto Rican League de Roberta Clemente is starting november 4. So right after voting, you can watch some Puerto Rican baseball. Who is coming to Venezuela? It's pretty exciting, is boyfriend wise. A few of my current baseball boyfriends from this season are going to continue to play, so I get to watch them probably more than I did during the season. Especially Gabriela Ria, seeing as though he was defaed by three teams this year. I didn't get. Maybe this one will stick. Maybe this one stick. He's playing with Tiborones de la Guayra, which is one of the areas that was really hit badly by the earthquake. So I hope that their stadium's doing okay. He only got to play 4841, games with them last year, which actually for winter ball is a pretty good chunk. Yeah, it is a good chunk. 282 average. He did well. Nine homers, 28 RBI, and 28 runs scored. So maybe he'll get more time this year. Interesting. A former baseball boyfriend pick of mine. I might need to say X. I'm not sure how I feel about drugs. I mean, I know in in general, I'm pretty liberal on the drugs, but um, you know, drugs performance enhancing drugs. I for baseball, I don't know how I feel about Jericson Frohf. I chose him before his druggy days, 2019, when he was with the A's, he will be playing for the Tebro de la Guayra. They have no problem with drugs. Apparently, it is his first time playing in Venezuela. He played in the Dominican Republic two years with Tigres de Lize. I think a lot of folks know he is from Curaçao and played all three World Baseball classics for the Netherlands, and then played for Curacao in the Serial de Caribe a couple years ago. So big on the international play, not so much in MLB.

Pottymouth 38:29
He missed the entire last season last last year from Atlanta, his second year of his three-year contract with Atlanta because of his second performance-enhancing drug suspension. He had missed 80 games the year before, so Atlanta maybe not feeling so good about this guy, having totally fucked up the first two years of his contract, and actually they're still contemplating what they're going to do next year. I mean, they could bring him back, or they could just pay him, and he's done. I don't know. Do they have to pay? I mean, he's not suspended anymore. I

Patti 39:00
if his contract has not been canceled, they owe him the

Pottymouth 39:03
money. So maybe we'll see. I don't know. Who knows if they're going to try to teach him a lesson or not? We'll see how he does. Maybe if he, you know, knocks the socks off of folks in Venezuela over the winter, they might be like, yeah, a little bit of drugs. That's all right. Come on back. Jorbit Vivas was my initially my Yankees guy, but then he moved much closer to home, and was my Nats guy, and that's 2026, not 16. He's going to be playing with the Tigres de Aragua for the second year. Last year, he only played 15 games, so yeah, that's much much more limited because the Yankees pulled him back. But you know, this year, first of all, he's with the Nats. Maybe they want him to play more. And second of all, maybe he can do whatever the fuck he wants. He previously had played with Aguilas de Sulia in 2020 to 24, and went to the Tigres de Aragua as part of the 10 player mega trade. Eduardo Escobar, who I picked way back in 2021 with Arizona, and he's. Just a great vibe guy in the in the dugout. He is also with the Tigres de Aragua, so I get a two for there. Just Justinson, Justinson, shit! Like it's been a hot minute, and I have to. You had it so I have to like practice the name again. Yeah, Justinson Garcia, the the password. Look up the spelling of his name. And if you

Patti 40:17
say it fast, you can skip all those necessary consonants. That's right. You just pretend

Pottymouth 40:21
that they're not there. Justin, Josenson Garcia. He is with the Pirates. I picked him this year, even though he didn't end up having much time with the Pirates, and the time that he had was not stellar. But he's gonna get some practice. So let's look at the bright side. He's going to be playing with the championship team, the Navagantes de Magallanes, who, and he's going to be going there in November. So they were managed last year by Yarde and Marlena and got the championship. And Yadi is back. So I am there for that. Justinson only played three games with them last year, and he went five for nine. So let's see if Pittsburgh or his conscience lets him go longer. I thought it was kind of interesting to compete to Marcano, who we talked about when he got banned for life from baseball because he bet on games that he was in in the minor league, and this was like two years ago, I think. That seems right. So we talked about last year he played in the winter league, and yeah, I know the rules here don't match their you know seed jerks and profile above, and I was thinking, well, you know, at least he gets to pay the bills playing in Venezuela. And then I looked up where he's been, and he actually played this past year for the Fargo Moorhead Redhawks, and it's an indie team in the American Association of Professional Baseball. And on, and I did the like, you know, check the website, check the website, and where that came from, and the American Association Professional Baseball has a little MLB logo in the corner that says Professional Partner League of MLB. I don't, I don't guess that way he can do anything

Patti 41:52
once removed away from being cousins that matters. It may

Pottymouth 41:55
that could yeah right right so they can date yeah yeah so they can so I just feel like

Patti 42:01
gross but legal.

Pottymouth 42:05
Oh my god! That's absolutely the byline. Gross but legal. Okay. Luckily, I only have two more teams to go through. The Leones de Caracas in the capital, Moisés Baesteros, who I picked when he was on the Cubs, and then he went over to the Angels and did well with the Angels. He's at the rumor stage. He might be joining the Leones. He's one of the guys who's technically on their reserves list. Like a lot of guys who play MLB who don't play at all the whole season in Venezuela or Dominican Republic or Puerto Rico are still on the list of reserves. So it's like if he felt like it, he could stop it. So if he if he decides he could go there, Lennon Sosa, who I picked with the White Sox in 2023 and was traded to Toronto this past April and then released by Toronto because he had a really shitty year in Toronto, he will also be playing with Eleonoz de Caracas, trying to boost his resume, as will be Yannatan Daza, who I picked in 2023 with Colorado Rockies, and has been pretty much in winter league since then. All right, the last team, because I love to say it, Caribbean Swategie, Orlando Arcia, who I picked with Atlanta in 2024, will be with the Caribbees, and they are going to be managed again by World Series champion with the Washington Nationals Estrubal Cabrera, who famously lost to Yadier Molina managing the Navagantes in the finals. So, will we have another Estrubal Yardi matchup? It'll be fun to find out. But check out LVBP, and we will put a link on. It's it doesn't cost a lot. It's I forget. It's like 20 bucks a month. There's an easy service that I've subscribed to previously to watch it, and I I think it's fine. Okay, we'll link it.

Patti 43:51
Okay, we'll do that. Okay, so don't worry. Things have been happening with collective bargaining. In case you were wondering, is

Pottymouth 44:00
this a don't worry be happy or don't worry be afraid, very afraid?

Patti 44:04
It's somewhere in the middle. If things are going on and we're not falling for it,

Pottymouth 44:10
all right.

Patti 44:10
So there's

Pottymouth 44:11
that.

Patti 44:12
First part is new proposals by the league for collective bargaining. As a reminder, the current contract between MLB and the MLBPA. The Players Union expires the beginning of December, so they've been bargaining. The league put out a new proposal Thursday to actually modify both the season and the postseason structure.

Pottymouth 44:40
Didn't they already have enough stuff to talk about? Like, well,

Patti 44:43
don't you worry, it's tied in. Oh

Pottymouth 44:46
boy!

Patti 44:47
So if you like it, you have to pay for it in a way you're not gonna like. Oh shit! Here's the thing: one of the things they suggest for, and again, this was Thursday, so the the postseason was a little itchy with some weirdness in. Wild card that people weren't happy with how things were playing out, and then also you know Cleveland and Chicago were going to a game five, but that didn't happen on Thursday. That was happened at the end of the day on Thursday. But you kind of wonder what's influencing this. Like, oh, maybe wanted Chicago to win. Maybe thought there were two more games or whatever. So what? Here's the proposal: extend the division series, which is the one that just finished, which has been best of five to best of seven, right? And then the complaint about how the wild card matchups were going have the highest seeded teams in the wild card and then also in the ALDS choose their opponents. So here's how it's like an informal reseeding, right? Because people are going in, they're seeded based on their their record for the season, and so you get some weird stuff like teams that had over 100 wins or playing each other, and then you know the Chicago

Pottymouth 45:55
Cubs, yeah.

Patti 45:57
So here's how, like for instance, in the wild card, you know we have there's three division winners, but that third division winner has to play a wild card series, right? Is that fair? Is that not fair? It's it's maybe weird, but what if that they're the highest seed in the wild card round? What if they get to pick their opponent? Does that make it more interesting? Does that make it fair? Whatever that that would be what that would look like there, and then in the division series, like the you know, like the ALDS, I just finished first, and the NLDS, the top seeded team would pick which of the winners from that wild card round they want to play.

Pottymouth 46:31
So who gets to pick? Is it the GM? Is it the manager? Is it a vote?

Patti 46:35
It says the team, and I don't have any more details other than that team gets to choose. So I don't know the answer. It seems like it's

Pottymouth 46:42
opening up a Pandora's box of who the fuck knows what's going to happen. It

Patti 46:45
is. I mean, this whole thing is a who the fuck knows situation. So those are things that are being floated as we could do this. You know, there have been complaints about this. Would this solve it? Maybe, maybe. Okay. Here are some changes proposed to the regular season, and they are absolutely couched in ways that this is going to be good for you, players. Right,

Pottymouth 47:06
of course,

Patti 47:06
until you keep reading. So they want to. They're suggesting we go back to 154 game season from 162, and back to means also back to 1961.

Pottymouth 47:17
Oh, it was another Make America Great Again. We're making America

Patti 47:20
great by cutting down the regular season to 154 games. What they want is like a standard day off, like one one day per week, which I like for player health and well being and that kind of stuff. But also, here's what else it allows. It allows a day every week where there's not a lot of competition, so hey, I know why don't we have one nationally broadcast game on that day where we could get a lot of money from national network, you know, national media partners to pay for this because it'll only be that one game. You know, everybody's going to want to watch. It's baseball night in America, right? Because it's not going to be regional network stuff. It's going to so we are taking away games that are part of the regional network agreements and making them possibly available to national media partnerships, which are largely benefiting the league. Okay, there's more.

Pottymouth 48:13
I just want to say though that the the coverage national coverage is generally so much shittier than than local coverage. It

Patti 48:18
absolutely is.

Pottymouth 48:20
I do not enjoy watching my team's games with natural national. Yeah, I want the

Patti 48:23
guys who know the players.

Pottymouth 48:24
Right.

Patti 48:25
Yep. Yep. Okay. So here's here's the official line from the league: a shorter regular season unlocks, making October even better for our fans because there would be with a shorter season, you'd have more October to work with for the postseason, right? So they're saying there'd be fewer afternoon games, right? Those piss everybody off because if you have a day job, they piss everybody off who has a day job that can't be watching those games, you know, without cheating just a little bit. A longer division series, they say, it's more opportunities to see the best pitchers. What that also means is more lucrative ad sales and bigger deals with national media, right? Because if you have a longer series, those remember the postseason series are on national media. They're on TBS and they're on Fox. They're on whatever. They're on NBC. They're not on your regional thing. So it's increasing the possible profits, even if it's only eight games a year. They said like with those days off. Even it's only eight games a year, it's still a huge influx of cash for the league.

Pottymouth 49:25
It's all about the money. It's

Patti 49:26
all about the money. So in the past, when things about shorter seasons came up in negotiations, the the union was always like, okay, that's going to cut salaries. Yeah, that's going to cut pay, and the league is saying, oh, don't worry, the salary cap will fix that,

Pottymouth 49:43
right? Oh, fuck! So this is their back door into the salary. This is their back door into the salary cap, and the union

Patti 49:49
says the salary caps are already reducing pay. So if you're saying that, yeah, that's because that's already reduced. And the union statement was, unfortunately, the league once again. Clear that all of its proposals are contingent on players' agreement to a salary cap, a system that guts player rights and compensation, as well as its other anti-player proposals.

Pottymouth 50:10
All right, yay for strong union statements. Yep, like for sure. Say it like it is. Oh no, we're

Patti 50:16
doing this for player health. Well, wouldn't you do that for player health regardless? Yeah. Why is it? Why do you have to agree to the salary cap to make that happen? Okay, so the memo that the Potty Mouth referenced about the lockout was sent to team owners, october 1. Of course, it got leaked, right? Yeah. And this is the the memo that says, okay, here's how to plan for the lockout, because of course there's going to be a lockout. There can't not be a lockout because everyone the the the parties are so far apart. Okay, so this kind of like playing out. Here's what a lockout would look like. So you could start planning for this at your team owner, right? So all business stops during a lockout, right? All business stops. No trades, no signings. They're going to do that thing again where they they scrub the player images from the website, which I don't get

Pottymouth 50:59
gross.

Patti 51:00
What is the point of that? Right. I don't know what that does. They're also going to like make sure that none of the news headlines have players' names in them. Those those people still exist. They may not be actively playing, but we can't. I mean, it seems like a lot of money going towards the scrubbing portion of this. Of course,

Pottymouth 51:13
as

Patti 51:14
you said, players are allowed to play in winter ball in other places, which I'm sure a bunch of them will.

Pottymouth 51:21
Yeah, and then

Patti 51:22
they have this thing that sounds like rental cars to me. You know how when you rent a car, you do a walk around, you make sure there's no scratch and dents, yeah, and you say, "Oh, that's already here. This is not my fault. They want teams to kind of document player health.

Pottymouth 51:35
Oh,

Patti 51:36
going in before a potential lockout, not contingent on a lockout and not formally, but just kind of like do do a walk around the the auto body here and make sure it's okay. So that way, if they go off and they do these, you know,

Pottymouth 51:50
motorcycle rides, the motorcycle

Patti 51:52
rides, or play for other leagues or whatever, yeah, they can't use an injury, you know, so they know what injuries happened while they were still, you know, on official MLB duty, as opposed to like making workers' comp claims that happened during the lockout. If it's really just something that was before that they didn't report, then they're told, "quote Avoid players to the greatest extent possible. Which is

Pottymouth 52:13
so great. Which means

Patti 52:14
you're invited to their wedding. Go to their wedding, but don't talk about baseball at the wedding.

Pottymouth 52:19
Just that they have to get to that detail of wedding behavior, wedding etiquette. Yeah, you keep doing that because, of course, you're

Patti 52:26
going to go. You know, you're invited to the wedding. They're not going to not have the wedding. But also, you know, a lot of players are sent home with their homework, right? Their their summer vacation homework. In this case, their you know off season homework. Here's your training plan. They said if you're going to do that, do that before december 2, because you can't communicate this kind of stuff after a lockout happens. Should a lockout happen? Because no, we're fine. Everyone's negotiating in in you know everyone's best interest. My favorite part is this, and I quote: Sending players holiday cards or gifts would not be permissible during a lockout,

Pottymouth 53:01
what?

Patti 53:01
But clubs could send holiday cards or gifts to players prior to december 2.

Pottymouth 53:06
Well, you know, not even Hanukkah is prior to december 2 this year. Like holiday cards, Thanksgiving cards. You can send your Thanksgiving cards.

Patti 53:13
Maybe you send them out with a "Don't open until" right thing on there, just in case.

Pottymouth 53:18
That's just so sad. It's so fucked up. I we're talking about human beings here, and you know that the injury thing happened last time. Yeah, for sure. Yeah, a lot of players are like, this happens. And

Patti 53:30
how do I take care of this? You know, don't you want to work with those players to make sure they're cared for in a way that the team wants them to be cared for?

Pottymouth 53:37
You'd think.

Sorry, we're not allowed to talk because we want the salary cap that nobody else wants, more labor things that may or may not be related to this. The Orioles laid off a bunch of business staff and in-game quote presentation staff in the past week, like these in the teens. Insane, right? Someone said, "Oh, it's a bloodbath, and by a bloodbath they'd be like 15. But anyway, that's a lot. That's still a lot, right? Yeah, when it's the entertainment staff, and well, and the presentation staff includes the person who we know as mr. Splash.

Pottymouth 54:05
Oh my God, which has been huge, like this past year especially. Like it was just such a thing, and that that section, especially in hot days, was fun. The bird bath

Patti 54:15
is for sure, and so I have a mr. Splash bobblehead, so I wonder if all of a sudden that's like my retirement plan, right? Because it's in his likeness,

Pottymouth 54:25
yeah,

Patti 54:26
and he's he's been laid off. So I don't know. So the question was: Is this like in anticipation of the lockout? Like when we need to maybe you know we're cutting expenses and we're not or we're not going to have we can't we can't do business, so we don't need the business staff while we're gone. How that affects mr. Splash? I don't know. But that are they

Pottymouth 54:42
going to get a mr. Splash scab at the end of this or something?

Patti 54:46
I hope not. No, I hope not. But the the the O's official statement was: these decisions were about making sure our teams are built and staffed for the work ahead, not about reducing headcount.

Pottymouth 54:58
So are they are they firing the bird? I saw.

Patti 55:01
I have not seen that. There was like

Pottymouth 55:04
some headline about the bird and mr. Splash, and of course I didn't look into it. But I also don't

Patti 55:09
know if only one person, you know, staffs the bird mascot, whereas clearly mr. Splash is mr. Splash.

Pottymouth 55:16
Although they have guest splashers, are they going to just bring in a guest every day? And then those

Patti 55:20
guests only come in for an inning.

Pottymouth 55:21
It's right because

Patti 55:22
it's a very taxing job. It's a lot of work. You have to put on a polar bear head sometimes. You have to run back and forth. You have to lead cheers. It's a lot. It's very very busy job.

Pottymouth 55:31
And it's super like weather contingent. Like I can imagine in April, people aren't really excited about getting all wet.

Patti 55:36
But he's there, man. He's there wearing his floaties.

Pottymouth 55:38
That's crazy. It's just crazy shit. I have very serious questions about the commitment of Orioles ownership. I feel honestly like as as somebody who's not a fan and and generally like is battling against the Orioles, I think this guy has been pretty shitty.

Patti 55:56
It's interesting because like initially it was like oh yay yeah

Pottymouth 55:59
exactly he seemed like a nice guy. He's a philanthropist. He's been now, but now

Patti 56:03
I am like you know I am Team mr. Splash. So I don't know. I'm gonna read up more, learn more. We'll get back to you. What I mean, other than sitting in front of the television and watching, you know, in my case, hoping for Brewers wins and hoping for Cleveland wins, that's my plan. What are you up to?

Pottymouth 56:19
That is absolutely my plan. I am happy to be in Maryland for a full week. I'm excited to get my feet like back on the ground here, get some shit cleaned up around the house, and watch a lot of baseball as much as possible. Oh, I do have a PSA here for those of you who love the Duncan, and you know, being from Massachusetts, we do Dunkin' but Dunkin' is everywhere. Dunkin' no longer with the donuts, but Dunkin on Friday are giving out free bat koozies if you get the special drink that is purple, and I forget what it's called. But I'm not sure if it's across the country. It's definitely Massachusetts and New York because I saw specific ads for both those places, but I plan to investigate Maryland because who doesn't want a purple bat koozie?

Patti 57:06
Is it a baseball bat or sorry? The flying it's the Halloween flying

Pottymouth 57:11
bat, and it's got wings. Like the wings stick out. It's really cool.

Patti 57:15
Can we do a field trip on Friday? I

Pottymouth 57:16
think we need to.

Patti 57:18
I mean, I technically am working, but I'm working from home, and that means I might need a coffee break.

Pottymouth 57:23
That sounds really good. I'm

Patti 57:24
just saying. I

Pottymouth 57:24
think we could arrange that.

Patti 57:25
Okay. Hey, so let us know if you go out and get your back koozies, no matter what that looks like, and if they're available near you, and who you're rooting for, and why it's Cleveland and Milwaukee. So find us on social media, Potty Mouth.

Pottymouth 57:38
Hey, we're in that blue sky, and we'll check Twitter too at NCIB podcast, Facebook and Instagram at No Crying and Beeball, and the best place to be is our Patreon folks. And I know I promised stuff to you guys last week, but I was away with my dad, and I promised this week. Really, I'm here this week. P a t r e o n.com/no crying and b ball. And there's lots of fun stuff up there from our trip, and there will be more in the very near future.

Patti 58:04
All right, my friends, go see some live sports. If you remember who Jeffrey Mayer is, schedule your colonoscopy. Fight the man is the right thing to do. Send your game balls to Meredith, and until next week, say good night, Potty Mouth. Good

Pottymouth 58:15
night, Potty Mouth. As long as it's clear and it's not like something's not fucked up, but I just press the button and it makes our voice. Wait, it's a low bar, but if

Patti 58:40
it's yeah,

Pottymouth 58:41
I need that low bar on a regular basis.
