Whack-a-Mole

Patti 0:00
Hi. And welcome to episode 404 of no crying in baseball beat go out there and prove somebody wrong. Episode, my name is Patty. I'm here with my friend. Potty mouth, hey. Potty mouth, hey. Does that have to do with the 404 error? Podcast, no. Phone, yeah, no, no, it's not. It has to do with me having a third basement. Oh,

Pottymouth 0:35
hey, right.

Patti 0:36
Isn't that exciting? Exciting? I'm happy about that. Hey, we went to two baseball games this week. That's

Pottymouth 0:42
a pretty good what do you call it? Pace? That's it. It is

Patti 0:46
pace. It is a good pace. Um, both were shut outs. I don't care for shutouts unless they're against a team I really despise, because I want the games to be excited unless it's a total pitchers duel, right? It wasn't necessarily the case like the first one, like, when, when the gnats crushed the Orioles. The Orioles were playing very badly. Yeah, there was really good pitching, but the Orioles were also screwing up a lot, and that made me sad. So it wasn't as fun to watch. Whereas, you know, we were shot out the Mets shot us out at the game, right yesterday, I had a great time. I would prefer the NATs one, but it was a good game. It was exciting, like, kind of everything about it, except for the loss, was really good. Yeah, I actually

Pottymouth 1:25
I liked the shutout with the Orioles because it was so close to a no hitter, and I had low expectations, basically no expectations for the nationals pitcher. I didn't know anything about Paca, but and he came out looking so shaky, and so I was kind of, it was fun to see a picture that at least I didn't know anything about, like, polish it together and do really well. And so I saw more like him doing well than the Orioles sucking. Yeah, I

Patti 1:52
guess you weren't watching their Fielding. Yeah, it was that. It wasn't totally one with, you know, against the batting, but the fielding was poor, and the the hit that was, was early, was in the third inning, so it wasn't like the tension of, oh my god, is it going to be a no hit that was, that was already over. So,

Pottymouth 2:07
so close. And I was thinking maybe they would let him do the complete game shutout, but they did, yes, Bucha was too high. Yeah, it was so close. Though he went eight, like,

Patti 2:15
yeah, no, it was, it was, I was so happy to be at two ball games. Yeah, we had, you know, even yesterday we had two rain delays. Still was a beautiful day for baseball. It was so weird that it ended up being lovely.

Pottymouth 2:26
Moral of the story, folks, at least in this area, always put that little portable poncho in your baseball bag, because when we left home, I didn't think was gonna rain at all. And not only did it rain, but it did so twice

Patti 2:39
and pretty hard, like, as soon as the sky open, it was a boom. Here it comes. Oh,

Pottymouth 2:43
yeah. And if you haven't seen it yet, definitely go online and look at the poor dude who got rolled over by the tarp that was at the end.

Patti 2:50
You know, he was, in fact, you know, on the grounds team, yeah. So it wasn't like they didn't roll the tarp over a random thing, right, right? I mean, it was still not good that it happened, but at least it was someone who was supposed to be on the

Pottymouth 3:02
field, yeah, but he was like, at the end, and you could tell that, I mean, it's raining like crazy, and most of the tarp folks were just focused on going forward, and this guy just kind of, like, went all the way over the tarp and then under it. Not many people noticing until the tarp stopped moving, because of the body,

Patti 3:16
what's this bumpy thing, right? Yeah. And you can also say, even with that, they got that tarp out super fast. So I'm, like, regularly impressed with with, you know, like the grounds teams at Stadium. Oh, they know their show.

Pottymouth 3:28
Yeah, crazy, crazy, good. Also, another benefit of the rain delays yesterday was making friends. So we worked. I definitely did not plan this, but we were in the Met section, you know, I definitely should have known, because, as you pointed out, we were behind their dugout. Great, great seats, but full of nets Mets fans who were very nice. I

Patti 3:46
am so not used to that. You know, years gone by, yeah, like swarms of Mets fan would come in and say mean things and behave. These guys were, like, very pro their team, but like in the why not? Of course, you're gonna cheer up your team way, not a NAT suck way, or whatever. It was lovely. It was lovely. The Mets fan behind us actually dried our seats for us as we got there. I mean, how nice is

Pottymouth 4:08
that? And kind of like, we clapped for several of the Mets that we like, yeah, they clapped for several of the gnats that they like. So I think it was just like a very, you know, we just hope every day has a good time. Yes, yeah, exactly. And then I met a nice Red Sox fan. So I'm hoping that you guys are listening. If you're all listening, thanks for chatting with us. It was fun, and maybe we'll see you again at a future ball game. Oh, I do want to do a shout out to a podcast that contacted us, which I think you're gonna have to listen to, because I'm not going to. It's an Orioles podcast. Oh, yay. In England, I believe it's always another

Patti 4:42
language. Yes, that's super like both the like spoken language and the baseball language, right? This is good, right?

Pottymouth 4:48
Owes across the pond are our new or your new best friends and and we've got to check them out. So hey guys, thanks for contacting us, and we will be in touch for

Patti 4:58
sure. I want more. Shout out. I'm two friends. The show Lisa for giving me an early birthday present, which is my new T shirt. So you may remember, a couple of weeks ago, we talked about the alternate identity of the now Chesapeake Bay socks, the Orioles double 18. They're going with oyster catchers, which is name of a bird. And one of their designs was very Georgia, O'Keeffe, if you get my meaning, and was shut down immediately, because anyone who's paying attention, or maybe who is old enough to actually have seen anything in their lifetime would know you probably don't want a t shirt with that image on it. I do now have a T shirt with the oyster with a pearl in it, in a in a mitt, and I'm very, very excited about it. I've never laughed so hard at a birthday present in my lifetime, and I'm old, so that's saying a lot. So thank you. Thank you. Thank you for my gift.

Pottymouth 5:47
It is lovely. So everybody run over to our Instagram page, which, you know, come to think of that, I fucked that up when I was trying to give our Instagram at you know, it's not like I say it every week or anything, but the Instagram address to the people behind us anyway. Hopefully they found us. Everybody else, go to our Instagram. I will say it correctly, I think at the end of the show, and you can see Patty's really, really cool shirt

Patti 6:11
on today's show, our boyfriends are featuring who's on first and I do know on third base, we've got new city connects, which may overlap with the police blotter a little bit, which features someone who may be setting a record in police blotter appearances. We've got more on the queer women in sports panel, and we're cross training with inclusion and the NCAA basketball tournament. Cheers. So we're going to start with our boyfriends. These are the guys that we pick every season, one per team, because there's something about them that we like. They're good at baseball. They do interesting things. They have a, you know, a cool back story, whatever it is, guys who want to have a beer with a long time ago, back in 2019 I picked a Eugenio Suarez, who, at the time, was with the reds. He's been with a couple teams in between. He is now with the Diamondbacks. And he did a pretty cool thing on Saturday versus the hammers. He became the 19th player in MLB history to hit four home runs in one game. He had insane four at bats, Homer at each bat, shit. He is the first to hit four in one game since JD Martinez in 2017 when he was also with Arizona. In the last 20 years, it's been those two and only two more. Scooter Jeanette, who was my 2018 Cincinnati boyfriend. Wow, isn't that crazy? And Josh Hamilton, the craziest part about all this isn't as much the numbers as it is. Even with his four home runs, they lost the game. Oh, my God, to Atlanta, eight to seven, which makes only the third time of you know these 19 times where four home runs have been hitting the game the team you know, containing the person who hit those four home runs, actually lost the game, but those, those four home runs left Eugenio Suarez to the top of the A of the MLB charts for most home runs so far this season. Bunch of guys have nine. He's got 10. Again, we're recording on Sunday. So of course, things may have changed by the time you hear this, but that is our story. So you may have heard me mention I now have a third basement, because listening to the show, you know I've mentioned a lot that I in my infield on my fantasy team. Not so great. Jace Young from Detroit, got sent down like immediately. He had a bad spring training. He didn't even make the opening day lineup, so he was bit in triple A, got recalled on Monday back to the Tigers. Actually saw him play in a lost Orioles. The Orioles lost to Detroit anyway. So again, he had a terrible spring training. And he said one of the things that was different about spring training is I wasn't wearing my eye black. I always wore eye black in college. I wore it before, and I felt kind of like gritty. And I was like, you know, I it reminded me to work hard and all the stuff. And there was a lot of, like, weirdness then, because, like, the Tigers were trying to get Alex Bregman. And so, you know, he's up, this guy's a third baseman, so, you know, he was like, you know, very tense about they want me. Lot of things went wrong. So it got sent down. And as soon as he got sent down, he's like, the eye black, sure. And it's, you know, part of it, you know, everybody in MLB is, you know, is superstitious, or at least a little stitious. And he's like, okay, so I'm gonna put that back, but it's kind of a reminder, yeah, and yeah, I got called up, and he's like, Okay, I've got this now. And what he said was, just go out there, have fun. Get back to my college days, going out there with a little chip on my shoulder, go out there and go prove somebody wrong. I got the eye black back on. I should have put it on spring training, but I went back to the eye black. So now we go back to black back. There's a song for that, yeah. So we're gonna head bang for a moment, and then I'm gonna talk about white Langford, who you play these drums? Man? Yeah, you do, um, so wylan Ford again. You know, it's back from the IL and my fantasy numbers make up in a couple of categories. For instance, on Friday, Friday, he hit, he went three for four with two doubles off of Verlander. So that's pretty good. It was his third three hit game out of the first five since he came back from the i l. So that's a lot of hitting. So on my fantasy team, I always look at the last seven days worth of statistics. So the numbers are skewed, right? Because I'm only looking at seven days worth. But he had the highest ops on my team, 1.490 including 12, yeah, and two stolen bases. So, so welcome back. I don't know why I'm in ninth place out of 12 when I've got guys like Wyatt, and also I've got Pete crow Armstrong from Chicago, who is now tied with O'Neill Cruz for the most stolen bases in the league at 12 out of 13 tries. Holy now he had five this week alone. Wow, that's pretty good. But we learned last year not to project, yes, don't play that out any cruise. Right? Not right now. Anything can change at any time, but yay for right now. He became the fastest player in cubs history to reach five home runs and 10 stolen bases. He did it all in 26 games. Also, the fun thing about him, one of the fun things about Pete crow Armstrong, my Chicago Cubs boyfriend, is that he's from Los Angeles, and he's been playing best against the Dodgers. For instance, this la boy went three for four with a home run, a career high for RBI in one game and two stolen bases in there in the Cubs win Wednesday over the Dodgers, right? And when he was asked about that, he's like, okay, so you're from there. How does it feel to like win over Los Angeles, I think we've enjoyed being able to show that we're right there with them. And yet, it's always a little extra special for me, getting to do it against the team I grew up going to see. He's got another connection to the Dodgers, and that's he actually played baseball as a kid with and against Dave Roberts son, Cole, oh, that's so they're family friends. Wow, right? And so Dave Roberts, because Pete was so good all season so far, I think they've played seven games, and he's played exceptionally well against the Dodgers. Specifically, Dave Roberts said he needs to send me a bottle of wine or some golf balls about the success he's had. So I enjoyed that. So yay Pete, and thank you for all you do for, you know, the Cubs. And also, for my fantasy team, that's

Pottymouth 12:01
awesome. That's a, that's a, I think it's something that happens often, that somebody wants to show off when, well, I don't know where they were. They playing in LA because, like, you'd have family and friends who would see come see you there, or maybe even just family and friends who follow the Dodgers, who are gonna see you. Or somebody just need to,

Patti 12:19
need to show up a little bit. Hey, before you go, can we just stop and say, Oh, we're having a delicious having a delicious beer. And we've talked about this beer on the show before. This is checker spots, Rainbow snake beer, which is a collab. It's a biodiversity beer, and we like it. It's very Yes. Happy for

Pottymouth 12:34
me. That's past tense. I have moved on. Yes, yeah, well, you're saying stuff. I figured I'd drink a little bit. I have moved on to Denison Southside, which is one of our staples. It's just like a solid, great beer, local, great, great brewery, and I recommend

Patti 12:51
it. It's a classic. It's one of my favorites. I'm sorry, they they tone down the rye a little bit. Yeah, there's that. But, okay, it's delicious. All

Pottymouth 12:59
right, we're gonna go from third base back to first base. My question being, who's on first last year, I had issues with first base. I was trying so hard to avoid those issues this year by having theoretically, a lot of first baseman that I talked about and I have first base issues. So I talked about last week who the guy that I was depending on, Christian Walker of the Astros, was not doing well, and I needed some backup. And so it was between, well, I looked at Ben rice Yankees, and I thought, I can't do that without a red sock on my this is my own rules for to add to our like we didn't have enough rules. Yeah,

Patti 13:34
to be clear as commissioner, that is not one of my stupid, stupid rules. This is a self imposed rule, because you're allowed

Pottymouth 13:40
to do that? Yeah, yeah, self imposed, stupid rule absolutely that I feel like I shouldn't have a Yankee on my team if I'm not gonna have red sock on my team and Connor Wong is injured. So instead of drafting Ben rice, I drafted Nolan shanwell A couple weeks ago, I think, literally, two weeks ago, and sure enough, yesterday, he fouled a ball off of his right knee. Ouch. That's gotta hurt. Yeah. So I at the time of recording the test results aren't back yet, but he couldn't put weight on it, so that is bad. So I started looking more into the depths. I haven't taken them off yet, because I'm waiting for those results and we'll see what happens. And I looked at Cody Clemens, who I had chosen for my Philly's boyfriend this year, and he was DFA on Wednesday. You know, nothing like timing everything at the same time. He had only played off the bench seven games, and had gone over six with a walk. He had been rocking, however, in spring training. So I'm thinking, for a lot of guys, you need to be playing regularly for it to sort of like kick in and seven random games is not an off the bench. Is not that kind of routine. He had 327 average in spring training, but the past three seasons, also, he has been in the major leagues without a lot of plate appearances, no more than 50 in a year. There. So I feel like this guy needs more time. And sure enough, the twins agree, and they picked him up. So the twins picked him up because of a series of injuries. Shit is happening. It's so sad to see these guys go down. They picked him up because they're they picked him up as utility, probably not first base, actually, because Luke case shall who shit? I think he had they he was on second there fractured his right forearm being hit by a pitch. Now, cachel, I now have my eye on I had not heard the name before. Figured he was a new guy. He was only brought up on April 18, so talk about like another guy who barely got a cup of coffee before getting a fractured forearm in his so in that short amount of time, he had a 368, average, 1.064 ops. That's a lot, because he had five steals in his first five games, which is tied the record for the most deals in five games since 1901, that's a long time. Isn't that crazy? It's like a five way tie or something like that. But still, five steals in five games. And his very first game, he got a hit RBI run in a steal. So we'll see how long Luke casell is out with his fractured forearm, but I would like to keep an eye on him for the rest of the season, although from first glance at him, he looks like an Oriole. He's got the Q heart. He's got like the blonde, kind of dirty blonde, kind of flowy Oriole, Oriole look. So, you know, maybe there's a future there. Okay, luckily. So I was feeling a little bit desperate down Nolan, down Cody, luckily. Christian Walker, I think, is kicking in. Whew. He had a Mendoza line average for March and April, 200 exactly that was so not expected for this guy last week. So again, with the past seven days looking at he batted 308 average, with two homers and four RBI. Now for poor Houston fans, this is like PTSD, because the same thing happened when they got Jose Aubrey. And the parallels are kind of freaky. Both guys they had gotten from another team where they had done fantastic. I mean, Jose Abreu had gotten MVP when he was with the White Sox. Both players were signed for three years for a bunch of bucks. Abreas deal was 58 and a half million dollars, and Christian Walker was 60. So like the same, pretty much ballpark. Jose Abreu only made it through a year and a half of his contract because he did so shitty. His average was 237, with a 679, ops in 2023 and then he made it through 35 games of 2024 with a 124 average, 362, people. Hard. Yeah, talk about like falling from grace. So he was sent down, and, you know, he hasn't come back up yet, but hopefully Christian Walker is now turning around, both for the good of Houston fans and for the good of my lineup. However, Ben rice is still Holy shit, hitting the ball like crazy, so I really do think I will contemplate putting him on the lineup when Connor Wong is back, and I am hoping and thinking that Connor Wong is going to be back soon, because we had it confirmed, and I had put in my notes, and then our friend Callan texted on our fantasy group chat that he, in fact, did play for the Wu socks today. Oh, so he is not too far away from coming back up. He had broken his pinky, which is an important finger when you're a catcher. On April 7, Alex Cora pretty much said it depends on how his hitting comes out. And I think Callan said that he did okay hitting today. He had already been catching in bullpen practice with Tanner Hauck. I'm hoping that him coming back helps Houck, because how seems to be kind of broken these days. I don't know. He came back okay yesterday, but it was a little dicey. They do need to decide on Yasmani Grandal. So in all this catcher for kerfuffle with the with the Red Sox and the two backup guys. I mean, nervais is doing okay, Blake, so ball is just not defending very well. So they drafted Yasmani Grandal, you know, multi, multi year MLB player who has had greatness in many years, and he's doing really well with the woo socks right now, 313, average, 1.138 ops, but his date of he can walk is May 1. So we'll see what happened. It would be his 14th season in MLB, if he makes it.

Patti 19:39
Can I tell you that my brain is locking up with the possibilities of puns here I want to talk about like you balancing rice and Wong and telling difference between rice and rice and Wong and yeah, yeah,

Pottymouth 19:51
yeah. I think that just didn't know where to go with it. There's so many directions. There's so many directions, and and Connor Wong actually also helps. My first. Space Case, because he counts his first base on Yahoo. He did play first base last year, I guess enough. Apparently, all right to be counted, excellent. So that's it. Oh, my last pain in my you know, I'm below you, so I'm holding in 10th place in my Yahoo fantasy is my pitching. And I talked about how I took fire icing last week instead of Jameson, and you were like, you really should go for the whiskey, and I really should have gone through the for the whiskey, because Fire Ice, and got sent back down. So Jameson's now on my team, and I will celebrate that appropriately.

Patti 20:30
You know, I've never known you to like, choose against whiskey, right? That was still shocking to me.

Pottymouth 20:36
Yeah, and morals over whiskey, I don't know it's it was tight. So we're going to police blotter. This is such a good I'm so glad you're talking about this. So

Patti 20:45
Tommy Pham was my 2018 St Louis

Speaker 1 20:50
boyfriend, and I met Lewis. He's been so many places. Yeah,

Patti 20:53
we're going to talk about that too. Like, what number he's been with teams? So is that number higher, or is his appearance in various police blotters. Ours and others hire. I'm actually, there are a couple articles that sort of list all the things I just didn't count because I think it was funnier to wonder about this. Yeah, I still go back, like, what was it about him that? Mean, I think I didn't know, like, he, I don't think he had, like, really indulged in police blotter activity much when I selected him. Oh, no, no. So now I feel like, you know, I'm never gonna kick him up. There's no, I'm not putting him on any, like, no fly list. No, he hasn't done stuff. Mostly I'm entertained, yes, by his, you know, his issues, except when there was, like, bodily injury to a commissioner of a fantasy league, right? Because I take that personally, yeah. But other than that, it's really okay. So anyway, anyway, back to why he's on the police. Plotter this week. He's currently with Pittsburgh, by the way, in case I didn't like wind that up, his tent is his number 10 of 10 teams so far is Pittsburgh. So he just received a one game suspension, which he appealed and undisclosed fine, undisclosed fine amount for, quote, inappropriate actions toward fans, Wednesday versus the angels. Did you see the clip of this? I Did he grab his crotch? Was that it okay? You spoiled my punch? Oh, sorry. Sorry, yeah. So he was chasing down a foul ball in the left field corner, and a fan was like doing that thing, which was going for the ball, and touched him on the back with his mitt. And Tommy fan actually took a second to glare at him before, like, throwing the ball back in, which was a kind of, you know, whatever, and then did what was referred to as an inappropriate gesture. It wasn't really grabbing his crotch. It was a active movement. Okay, when I read all this, I thought, Oh, He flipped him off. And then I saw the clip, and it's like, Oh, no. Was

Pottymouth 22:40
it like a hip thrust? Was it? No,

Patti 22:43
no, let's just use the word jerk and not go any farther than this. Let's just say it was a hand gesture below the waist. Entertaining. It was very entertaining. So entertaining the LA angels broadcaster called it saying hello to the crowd. Saying hello to the crowd. He then again, made eye contact with this fan, waving him like, like, in a Joe Kelly, like, yeah, you know, come at me. Come at me, bro, right. All right. So, um, you know he's gonna pay money for this. He is probably gonna have the game suspension if he hasn't yet. Um, but fans, can you please stop reaching for balls that are in the field of play? I mean, this is entertaining, yeah, but there's no need for this. You know, this was not a dead ball. This was a ball in play. Keep your freaking hands to yourself. Stay on your side of the wall, your side of the netting. Okay, the ball's there, fine, but please do not that's just not okay

Pottymouth 23:40
so and, but apparently it's also not okay for players to be reaching for the balls. Well, you he didn't get no, he didn't touch anything. He just, he was a little bit in front of he was

Patti 23:49
enthusiastic in his gestures. He was, I will click link to a you know, so you can enjoy the video.

Pottymouth 23:56
So the reason why I thought he actually grabbed his crotch is because I didn't see what he did, but I saw like, a side by side picture that was really vague on him, but it had Shohei Ohtani from last year, where he was clearly adjusting himself, like it wasn't a gesture toward anybody, and somebody was trying to call MLB out for being, you know, hypocritical, and you're not going to do anything to Shohei Otani, but Shohei Otani was clearly like fixing a situation that was going on down there that needed to be fixed. So he probably had a reason for do we need to know that? I'm just guessing. I'm just trying to defend our show. Hey, that's all. Yeah, wow, wow.

Patti 24:35
Okay, well, so you know, so one of the articles I read did, in fact, give like a laundry list of all of the, you know, altercations, or near altercations that Tommy fans been involved in, some of which were with fans, and some were not. But, you know, he was with Arizona for a while, and lavulu said, I've heard things that get yelled him. There was a lot of racist shit gets yelled at him. So, like, so like, in some of those cases, it's like, I can see why he. Angry, you know, I think you probably could have little self control. And you know, there

Pottymouth 25:06
was an incident in today's Red Sox game where somebody yelled something at Jaren Duran, and I'm very curious to know what that was, but it definitely upset Jaren Duran, and he was yelling stuff back, and he was looking all sort of like huffy and Satan. Raphaella, bless his soul, totally chilled him out. Like, came a guy came over my boyfriend's back. Yeah, good guy got him away from the situation, and the fan was ejected. So apparently, he said, Whatever enough to be maybe

Patti 25:37
he told him on something that's real, is that something that's not I'm curious, right? That's why I'm wondering. I'm super, super wondering. I mean, also that's not the right venue for it, exactly. So I don't condone that in that venue, but I sure condone that on podcasts. Yeah, I would

Pottymouth 25:50
love to have a chat with Jaron Duran, yeah, and the more that I watch the clubhouse, the more I feel like I just want to have a chat with him. He's He's very vulnerable in that, yeah, I've tried to text, and he just doesn't answer. I've tried to DM them all right? I'm gonna keep trying. Okay, so might as well talk about fashion, because, you know, we haven't done that for a while. City connects. I feel like we're a little bit behind the take two version, because we talked about the gnats, which is growing on me. I mean, I I'm still bitter because the old one is just ideal. I

Patti 26:21
don't dislike the new one at all, except for it pales in comparison, because the first one was so good, exactly. That's all I mean, if this was the first one they had recently, like, oh, that's kind of nice. I'm I'm okay with this

Pottymouth 26:31
one. I think one like, added bonus of the new one that I noticed when we at the park yesterday and they had that big wall with all the colors is that it is light blue and pink and white. And so it very much looks like a lot of Trans Pride stuff, like the whole especially yesterday on the on the scoreboard, it was all pink and blue and white. And so I'm fine with that. I think that's a lovely message for the nationals to be intended. Yeah, yeah. Let's just put that out there. Um, oh, the one thing that I saw, actually. So have you seen the t shirt of with the W so I like the DC like, that's very cool, also for the NATs, but they also have the W image with the two cherry blossoms on either side. And apparently, and I saw this somewhere online and then verified it, especially the plus sized women's shirt, it sort of looks like two pasties, like, the placement of those two cherry blossoms is absolutely questionable, so that, I think that they started correcting it, because the more recent ones that I looked at looked like the cherry blossoms were a little bit closer in. But still, it's kind of like the, you know, picture, the design, the W with the two blossoms either side is a little rough for a T shirt for again, somebody else hire me to be in the room. Yes, right? I mean, I could have,

Patti 27:44
like, tried it out and said, Can you see what's happening here? Let's not do this. Although, weirdly, I am embracing, right? I told George O'Keeffe, yeah, oyster catcher saying, but I like it better that it's like, you know, definitely black market, and not like, you know, the official, the real, the real thing anymore, because now it's funny, as opposed to clueless,

Pottymouth 28:05
we're the ones who are clued in. Oh, the Astros, also, we talked about that. They're pretty decent, maybe, like, not better than space. Yeah, yeah. So there have been two more since we last talked. The Giants came out on April 8, and I like them. They're groovy. So, you know, it's funny because the article I read, I came out exactly opposite as the author of the article, the author of the article did not like the Giants. I think they're funky. I think they do what they're supposed to do. I'm very, you know, hip on on the music scene from San Francisco. I think that's a sure great

Patti 28:38
thing, not like, you know, like purple for the Fillmore slides. I mean, like, it's really, some of it's kind of like deep cut, but that's okay again, because, like, they have to, they're supposed to relate to the city that they're from. And I think it really does. I like it. I

Pottymouth 28:49
think it's great. I think the font is funky. The best part is the sleeve patch, because it looks like one of those psychedelic, you know, late 60s posters, but it's in a glove, and it's, it's just so cool. Yeah, no,

Patti 29:01
I'm pretty happy with it again. You know, not from there, but more I know of the San Francisco music scene from the way back machine. I feel like it's a, it's a good,

Pottymouth 29:09
it's a good throwback, and I think it's an improvement over the fog. Oh, absolutely. So the fog was just the wrong shade of orange. It was, like, just not different enough and not close enough. And you couldn't really, yeah,

Patti 29:19
it looked like it was just wrong, as opposed to No, this is, this is different. No, you like you're

Pottymouth 29:25
just off, yeah. So have you seen the Rockies one? I have my

Patti 29:29
favorite, um, description of it was, looks a little bit like sweet tarts. Yes,

Pottymouth 29:32
it's which I totally agree. I don't like them. I don't even so that is a downgrade, because I liked, oh, the Rockies one was like, my, I

Patti 29:38
think my number my number one, are close to my number one, with the green, the white, the license plate, you know, look with the skyline of the rock, the actual mountains. And, sir, I love that. This one, I mean, I get that, oh, you only want to evoke the interesting sunsets and whatever. And it it's not okay, but

Pottymouth 29:56
it's not the right color. So what I liked about the first one is it's a not. Natural green, like, it's a green that goes with nature. This purple does not evoke, like, one of those beautiful sunsets. It's sweet tart.

Patti 30:07
It is sweet tarts. One of the things I read said, oh, you know, it's like, it's a throwback to the kids. And literally, I don't want my I know, I don't want little these guys are grown up. They're growing up. Yeah? I mean, and colors are funny. I like the San Diego ones with the beach colors? Yeah, I live there. I get those colors. You see those colors everywhere you go in San Diego. That makes sense. It doesn't make sense to me for the Rockies agreed,

Pottymouth 30:29
totally agreed. What I did. The only thing I like about it is the hat. The Hats are good. Hats are good. It's got just the mountain, and somehow, like on the hat, the colors in the orange work, and there's a little baseball in the mountain and the hat I would get the shirt. So

Patti 30:44
you know, if you're from there and you have a different feel about it, please get in touch with us. Because, again, we don't live there since supposed to speak to you know that city, to the residents of that city, if it does, please tell us that we're wrong, and that's okay. I'm not going to get one, but that's okay. There's not being marketed to me. But why? I am not impressed, right?

Pottymouth 31:05
The last thing I want to say about it is, it's a pullover, yeah, the jersey, which I'm wondering, like, I don't know, why was there? Yeah, that's a lot of work. That's true, all right, so maybe, well, actually,

Patti 31:17
one of the things I said was, what I read was, you know, little league stuff is, like, you know, they're pullovers or T shirts, so easier, they're whatever. So they're going full Little League, I guess, I think they are going full, which kind

Pottymouth 31:29
of tracks with how the Rockies are doing these days. Oh, dear. Oh, sorry, Rockies fans, but man, that NL West is like, Oh, wow. Oh. And then there's, like, for the rock

Patti 31:39
Yeah, it's a whole everybody else, until you get to the point where it's not. I did see a leak of the Diamondbacks, new one, which looks pretty good. I'm

Pottymouth 31:50
wondering why. So I know the D backs are up this year. I know that that Boston's up for this year. I haven't seen dates on them. I've seen that this Friday, the White Sox are coming out, which is also, I kind of like their old one. So that's going to be, yeah, I think I like the funky font, and so that'll be one that's going to have to impress. And then Marlins, Saturday, May 3, and I'm blanking on the Marlins. Oh yeah, that was it there. And that's another one that was really good. That's right, that was the whole nod to Cuban culture and stuff, and it was in great colors and all right, well, they better do well, White Sox and Marlins. We'll see what's up. Um, one last fashion corner statement I want to talk about is Brian bas cleats that he wore today in the Red Sox game when they beat Cleveland. They're two out of three on the series. His cleats were very special. He had them specially made to honor the people who died in the Dominican nightclub collapse. And I hope that I can link to a picture of them, because you have to see it to really appreciate it. But one side had Ruby Perez's name, who is the singer who died in the accident, and the words vovere like three times, which is one of his big songs, and it also means, I will come back. I will return on the other side. He had the names of the two former MLB players who died, Octavia Dotel and Tony Blanco, and the date, which was written, eight, 420, 25 and that is because it's Dominican and everybody else

Patti 33:24
day than month, exactly month and day. Yeah, so

Pottymouth 33:27
is the US, the only country that does month and day, because all of my students, and I've had students from all over the world, primarily Latin American at this point, but everybody does that, and they get very confused with us.

Patti 33:40
So we are a confusing beauty. We are cross training with, with the Final Four, actually, with, with NCAA Men's basketball finals. Right? The finals this year brought us the very first ever Final Four inclusion clinic, wow, which was geared towards LGBTQ youth and allies. That's pretty cool. It was held the Saturday of the men's semi finals in a former spurs practice facility. And remember, we have talked before about the important you give weight to events when you host them in major leagues, in professional leagues, in national Yeah, yeah. Of sports league facilities, right? So that makes this even more like visible and very more and more important. So it was in the former spurs practice facility in San Antonio. It was sponsored by the sports equality foundation San Antonio Pride Center, and also had backing by the Spurs, by the team. So good. Also the whole NBA, there was some NBA backing, and also some media backing, CBS and TNT sports, wow. And over the course of this clinic, they had coaches from all over the state, men men's coaches, women's coaches, men and women coaches. Are all you know, they're participating in this. One of the high school coaches said, in a time when there is a lot of pushback, it's even more important to be visible. I'm not a doomsday type, but you figure out ways to get through. Yeah, right. Their headliner was former NBA player Jason Collins, who you may or may not remember, but 11 years ago, became the first publicly gay athlete to play in one of the four main men's, you know, professional leagues, right? It was an NBA player that was a freaking big deal. And, you know, it's still kind of a big deal. So he was working with the kids on basketball skills, but also having, like, conversations with them. And one of the things he talked about was like creating safe spaces, how important is to create safe spaces? And he said, How do we create that environment of acceptance? And the way we do that is by sharing our stories. And I understand there are some people who do not want equality, and I think that's something other people need to realize, need to accept that there are some people who absolutely do not want equality, and I think there are more of us who do want that world, amen. And he's he said one of the pieces of advice that he got years ago was, don't feel like you need to address every single hater. That's energy you're wasting to if they're saying something you feel you absolutely need to respond to go ahead, but it can turn into a game of whack a bowl, which I totally get. And at the very end, like part of the Q and A, he was asked about, you know, because these kids are so much younger, they don't really know his history. And he said, Yeah, no, I don't have any championship rings, but I'll have a wedding ring in a couple months. Oh, how cool. Isn't that great? So yay for the Spurs, yeah, yay for, you know all of these, you know for for all of the participants who came, all the coaches who came, all of these sponsors who put their name and their importance back, like TNT sports said, We want to expand this beyond basketball. So it's really cool that that organizations are finding a way to speak up and be strong and be supportive in the face of all the freaking crap that's happening in a lot of ways. So yay, thank you. I'm, I'm grateful that this happened. Yeah,

Pottymouth 37:10
that's what I was just thinking like now more than ever. Yeah, you know to say fuck you dei is, you know, diversity, equity and inclusion in all aspects is important, and for these huge organizations to be backing, it says a lot. So big fuck you to the administration. But also, there was something I saw, and I didn't know about this, but I did see something about Jason Collins recently, for some reason, and just that there hasn't been anybody else since then, and sort of like the feeling when he came out that it would be like opening the gates for others, but it's such a slow process to be safe. So to have something like this, to really say to kids that, yes, be who you are and it's gonna be okay is so important for the future. Some

Patti 37:58
of the coaches were saying things like, you know, they're looking at statistics, and, you know, there are kids who are afraid in PE class. Yeah. I mean, so this is at all levels. This is not just, Hey, if you make a professional sports league, you know, here's, you know, here's the support you have, or here's what you're up against, or whatever it is. But they're talking these kids where they're at. They're talking about them, and also their teachers and their coaches and their parents about how to build a better environment for these kids to play sports and be themselves and have fun and be safe and be freaking safe.

Pottymouth 38:33
Yeah, yeah, absolutely. And that's what you need when you're when you're young. And that's a good segue into the queer women in sports panel, which I mentioned last week, and I saw most of it kind of yesterday, while I was kind of getting some stuff together. It was put on by a bar of their own love the name in Minnesota, and it was a late start, and we had a game to get to, and I'm like, What the fuck is going on? I only have an hour, and I'd allocated an hour to this, and it's a half hour late. It was late, and they kept saying, we have a special opener. And waiting and waiting, and they asked online, who do you think it's going to be? It ended up being Governor Tim Walz, which was amazing for a couple of reasons. One was he did an official state of Minnesota proclamation for lesbian visibility week like this is recognized by the state of Minnesota from here on in that is really important. He also did it quickly because he said, I'm a man and I need to get out of the way. This is not my event. But he was there for a really important reason. But the other thing is, the woman who, one of the women who runs bar of their own was his student when he was both football coach and advisor to the gay students organizations. So there you go with, like, telling kids that it's you're okay with who you are and go for it. I mean, we're okay with who you're exactly. Yeah, that's huge. Like me, the football coach. Right, yeah, we're putting this out there. And so this woman has grown on to be really successful, and now she's putting on this event.

Patti 40:06
And also, can I just break in for one second and say, governor's man, they are like the line in the sand right now. You know states rights? I never thought I'd be a state's rights person, but this year, sure as hell. Holy

Pottymouth 40:17
fuck yeah. So bless him. And that made me also incredibly teary and sad for what could have been, yep, because to have an administration who would actually embrace everybody on the spectrum, as opposed to the shit that's going on now, is heart wrenching. But we are in the fight with y'all. We're in this together. So the moderator was hot shit. Also Jayna chartel, who's a local news station, TV station, both reporter and host of some show, but she was really funny. And there were three women on the panel, Sylvia Brayton from the Gemini rugby, Twin Cities Gemini rugby, and there are a whole bunch of rugby players there, which was also fun to see. Chelsea Falzon, the manager of youth programs for the Minnesota Twins, I'm going to focus on and then also, Kate Voss, Senior Manager premium services for the Minnesota links. All three women talked about, sort of their own journeys and their own sort of coming out stories and getting into sports stories. Chelsea Falzon, with the twins. Talked about how she she literally said that she was the first queer person she knew, because, yeah, so she grew up in that kind of environment where she literally didn't know anybody else, and she said, and also, I was the first queer parent person that my parents knew. So that was on me to do some education. But just look at where she is today, and she The wonderful thing was talking about how supportive the twins organization is. And so this is also, you know, and all this shit that we're dealing with today, gives me a little bit of hope for coming out of it and banding together, that there are organizations out there that are doing the right thing. And she said that she and her wife were married at Target Field, that the twins medical insurance provided care for their pregnancy journey and and also that all the staff are trained about speaking inclusively and using appropriate language. They also support girls baseball, and it sounds like she's coaching it. That was when I got in and out a little bit and gave a big shout out to a lot of women that we know and admire in baseball, including Veronica, Alvarez and others, sort of just heroes out there doing the right thing. So, you know, props to the twins, props to borrow their own. I would love to go there someday. Do we know if this was recorded? It was so that's the good news, yes, as I was like in and out, and knowing that I was leaving early, I typed in, is this recorded? And will it be sent to the people who registered? And I was told, yes, excellent. So hopefully, so we will have that, and we have this. I'd like to say this too, right?

Unknown Speaker 42:54
Cool stuff.

Patti 42:57
We refer to our really ridiculous fantasy. And so we're doing everything, reporting people for sure, for sure. And as the Commissioner, I can say, Boy, do we have stupid rules, and we report the statistics As of Sunday morning, right? So every Sunday morning, before the Sunday games start, I take a little snapshot of here's where the league is, because it changes on a daily basis, but I figure, you know, week to week, it kind of settles out. Our top five remain the same. Top five, I gotta say, wow. Bono's boyfriend switched with pandemonium, like took over second place. They're not that far apart, but they did switch so. But the top five other than that remains the same with wicked, awesome team in the lead bonus boyfriends, pandemonium, leftist field and dingers and dinos. The other exciting move, congratulations. Bring back renewal, because you bounced back from the 10th place to seventh place. You're tied with the rant in seventh place. You know the we're behind you. Both of us are behind you. But yeah, that's our it's a ridiculous team league. But you know, if you think it would be fun to come play with us, think about that yes, year, because we got room for a few more teams, and we have a good time. It's

Pottymouth 44:09
really it's really fun. And I just want to get, you know, put out my continual appreciation for the Canadians, because someday we might be in your basement and

Patti 44:19
living in yours sometime in the future. So thank you for that offer. You actually didn't make that offer at one point. Yes, and we appreciate it. It is in my back pocket for sure. And Tyler O'Neal, I wish he would hit the ball. He's on these on the aisle right now. Oh yeah, really,

Pottymouth 44:33
because he was so that talk about, like, cheering for the one person when it was the NATs O's, I cheered for Tyler O'Neal and Tyler O'Neill only, but that's because Jorge Matteo wasn't playing,

Patti 44:44
but I did cheer actively for Tyler, and he's been on the aisle since then. What'd he do? Yeah, I can't remember what he's doing. Oh, I don't think it's long. I think it's a short term. I hope so so too. Boy do I hope so too. You know, partially for the Canadians, because we care, we deeply care about you and your basement. Yeah. Also, I care about my Orioles, and right now they need all the help they can get. So this week, this week, we don't have any, like, baseball plans. During the week, we're not going to any games, but we have things. One of the things is, Thursday is May 1. It's May Day that is International Workers Day, support labor. There may be a demonstration, aid, an action, a protest near you. We always say, fight the man. This is an excellent opportunity to do so. So may 1 is not necessarily about flowers, and may falls all the time. It's about the eight hour day and about the weekends and about, you know, the fight for for fairness and equality and protections. So, yeah, that's Thursday.

Pottymouth 45:38
I'm thinking about going. There two actions in DC. There's one in the morning that conflicts with work, but then there's a five to eight one that, yeah, I'm thinking about that. All right. Let's talk about that. And then after that, back to baseball. See her, be her. Is next Saturday. We have to get since we do that right now. Let's do that right now. So see her, be her. We've talked about wonderful movie on women's baseball. They're going to be here with a full panel, including Justine Segal and also oh right, and cat Williams and and the film producers, of course, who all we all know, like they've all been on the show. Yeah, that's very cool. And then after that, we will go to the taco Park Beer Fest and drink some beer. And

Patti 46:20
the Beer Fest raises money for local community or for grants made to local community organizations who help folks here in our hometown. So we may be joking about, you know, we're gonna pour beer. We're gonna drink beer. It is, in fact, for a very good cause.

Pottymouth 46:32
So good drinking for a good cause is the best. So

Patti 46:36
